Is it Spring yet?

Wow, It was 48 degrees this morning at 7 when I took the kids to school. It was raining , but this winters been so cold, 40s are the new 60s! (at least in temperatures) Its supposed to get cold again and snow tonight so we'll just enjoy this morning. Everyone except Tim is back to school. We had a good vacation, we didn't do anything special, just played, rested, and ate out a lot. Even though we ate out I still had an overflowing sink of dishes this morning, and lots of laundry(I didn't do any of that this week).

Have a great day.

Winter Fun at Potowatami Inn

We had a great time this past week at Pokagon State Park in Angola, Indiana. These are just a few of the pictures from our week. They're sort of out of order, but the first one is from our last day at the inn, taken outside the Inn Restaurant. The view we see from our seat looks out over the lake. There are bird feeders all along the windows so we were able to see a large variety of birds from the seat in the picture.

The second picture was the view out our room window on Tuesday morning. Monday morning was sheer ice, I'll get pictures of that on later.

The next picture was, of course, from the pool. And finally, a picture of Daaron and Debra with the toboggan used on the toboggan run at Pokagon. All three of us climbed on the toboggan for a 35 mph sled ride down a track that was sheer ice on Monday morning. Then, we had to walk back up the hill, about 1/2 mile, carrying a 45 lb sled. Yep, a 45 lb sled. At least this year Daaron was able to help me out. Anyway, we had a great time, met a lot of great people, read a great book by Ravi Zacharias called "Jesus Among Other Gods" and just had a very peaceful, relaxing trip. Now.... tomorrow's back to my internship... if we have school that is. We've already had 10 1/2 snow days. I'm still on pace to be done by the 2nd or third week in April. I can't wait. Love you all. Oh, and we are having a graduation party on May 14th. If you can make it, we'd love to see everyone. I'll get details out as soon as I have them all myself.

Sunday Thanks!

Wow, I haven't done one of these in a long time. I'm thankful for this sunny Sunday morning, that is not snowing yet. I'm thankful that we've almost made it through February and the sun is shining a little brighter every day. I'm thankful that Wes is able to be home as much as he is and that I'm able to stay home and take care of things around here and be here when the kids are here. I'm thankful that my older kids like to come back and hang out. I'm thankful for the nice week vacation that the kids had last week and for the week vacation that Tim has this week so we can hang out. Have a great Sunday!

Spring???

Wow what a change in the weather! Yesterday at 7 am when I got in my car it was 55, today it is 27. Every once in awhile we get a glimpse of the nice to come. Yesterday was a very tough day at work. We now have one floor isolated with the throw up poopy flu. The workers moral is in the tank and it finally reached the front yesterday. As I was leaving one of the first floor residents came scooting up in her wheel chair and handed me a long stem yellow rose and told me Sat would be better! Evey day God gives me a little glimpse of good things ahead. Wow! Enjoy your every day!! Love Gram Bev

Guinea Pigs Please?

Ok everybody, I need your help. You all know that I am a consultant for Thirty-One Gifts. One of my customers has asked me to do an online party for her later this month. J has come up with a plan for me and I want to do a test run Monday night, February 21, 7-9pm. So if you're not busy, go to www.tmajcher31.tumblr.com, Monday evening. Get some snacks, put up your feet and come chat, listen to music, and shop if you'd like. I want to get your feed back, what's good, what isn't, what works, what doesn't. J has done a great job, and I think it's going to work great, but I want to be sure before I try to do a party for a customer. When you get on, make sure you go to the guest line in the chat box (the white box at the top of the page) and say hi. Hope to "see" you there!

Valentines Day Revenge

A SUGAR HANGOVER.  Yeap. It feels like a hangover.  So I googled it.  This is what I found:
Why Everyone Needs to Understand “Sugar Hangover,” Including the Physical and Emotional Symptoms

by www.BodyEcology.com

If you are experiencing brain fog, fatigue, headaches or depression, you may be eating too much sugar! Find out why even a little sugar has negative health affects, what to do about it and how to satisfy your sweet tooth naturally.

Most of us are aware that sugar in all its forms can lead to health problems like: weight gain, lowered immunity, blood sugar problems, diabetes, acidic blood, adrenal fatigue and candida.

But did you know that sugar can also cause hangovers?

It’s true. If you haven’t given up sugar yet, pay close attention to how you feel after eating foods with sugar or even too many natural sugars in fruit.

Here are some of th\e symptoms of sugar hangover1:
Fuzzy thinking or foggy mind
Fatigue or sleepiness after meals
Gas, bloating or extended stomach after meals
Headache
Joint pain
Skin problems
Allergy symptoms
Emotional - Mood swings like emotional highs and then lows (anger, sadness, lack of will power, depression, etc.)

Many of them are actually similar to how you might feel after too much alcohol. And there’s a reason for that...
Too much alcohol, just like too much sugar, affects your kidneys, liver, stomach and small intestines, which explains some of what is happening in your body. Dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, gastrointestinal disturbances and disruption of sleep are some of the results.

And if you are aware of the symptoms of candida, they too carry a similarity.

Candida floods your body with a toxic by-product called acetaldehyde. Acetaldehyde produces similar symptoms to an alcohol hangover.

This serious toxin is poisonous to your tissues, is not easily eliminated and accumulates in your brain, spinal cord and muscles. Keeping in mind that your heart and intestines are muscles, you may now understand why you have symptoms of brain fog, muscle weakness and even pain.

And guess what feeds candida? SUGAR!

Unfortunately, the typical foods and drinks (processed foods) on the market have so much hidden sugar, that the average American is (often unknowingly) consuming approximately ½ cup of sugar per day.

And that’s simply too much for the human body to digest effectively.

Here’s what happens in your body after you eat too much sugar or processed foods2:
Refined sugars enter your bloodstream.
Blood sugar levels rise.
Your pancreas is pressured to release insulin (a hormone that helps sugars get into your cells).
The insulin helps to use up the sugar rapidly, so blood sugar crashes.
Your body goes into a sugar low or hypoglycemia.
More hormones are released to deal with the sugar low and return your body to a balanced state. This actually causes a stress response in your body.
These hormones squeeze sugar from your liver, sending blood sugar back up.
Too much sugar causes your body to go on a roller coaster ride of ups and downs…and your moods often follow.

So what happens if you’re an occasional sugar eater? Even a little refined sugar and processed foods can send you on a roller coaster ride. Also, sugar is often combined with grains or protein in processed foods and desserts. This creates a slimy substance that coats your intestinal walls. Remember this if you are tempted to eat these so-called “protein” bars!
Sugar doesn’t really combine well with anything...not even vegetables. However, the food combining rules do say sugar can be eaten alone on an empty stomach. An example of this would be honey in hot tea in the morning when your stomach is empty.
So while at Body Ecology, we recommend you eliminate sugar until you’ve healed candida or other health problems (and even then, you may want to avoid it) if you want to stay young and avoid aging.

SO I GOT A HANGOVER.  A SUGAR HANGOVER.  UGGG.  MY HEAD!!!

HAPPY SUNDAY!

I have had a really nice Sunday,Church and Sunday School and an invite to breakfast after. Then I got to Skype with Jon and Olivia! She is growing so nice. It took Jon awhile to talk me on to Skype but we did it! I forgot my password. This new technology is so fun but I am so darn dense when it comes to learning it!! I got the altimate insult Sat after work. Had to pick up my perscription from Rite Aide and they asked my birth date which I gave them and she says.... Would you like the easy caps Mam? Oh I'm so old I need the easy caps.....I just smiled and said yes please make my life easier. Ah well. We are warmer here and dripping all over-- ice will be falling off every which way. Have a great week. I know this ol lady will.

English Muffins

I was so cold yesterday! I decided I wanted to bake to warm the house up. There aren't a lot of options for baking when you're trying to loose weight there aren't a lot of options. I've been craving english muffins for some reason, so I decided to make some. I found a whole wheat recipe that is only 115 calories per muffin. I was so excited, I got everything together, mixed it up, kneaded them, let them rise, only then did I realize that you don't BAKE english muffins, you make them in a skillet. It took almost 3 hours to complete but I have to say that they are pretty good! Today the sunshine is out and they say it's suppose reach 60 next week! I'm so excited! Have a great day everyone.

Long overdue Sunday Thanks

Brandi,
Thanks for the reminder. I have not been on in a long time. It seems things are sooooo busy. I've been putting in 12 hour days throughout this whole year. Three more months and I'll be done. For that I'm thankful!
So, here are some Sunday Thanks!
Sandi, thanks for all your great ideas. I'm getting wonderful music everyday because I get CD's out of the Library. Selah, Casting Crowns, and Jeremy Camp this week.

I thankful for snow days, two this week, when I can spend some real quality time with my family.

I'm thankful for good books. Davis Bunn "Gold of Kings" and Ted Dekker "Adam" recently.

I'm thankful for hymns at church. "I Need Thee Every Hour", "It Is Well With My Soul".

I'm thankful for God's word, and my sons memory verses.

I'm thankful for answered prayers. Over and over and over. We can not out give God in any way. We say that alot about finances, but we can't out serve God, out love God, out perform God. He is always able to keep us full if we are willing to pour out whatever He gives us. My problem is the pouring out.

Love you all!

Oh, and I'm thankful for Buffalo Wings which I'm in the process of making.
Mike

Sunday Thanks

Today I am thankful for my children who put me in my place. Last night Ruben says mommy we have to say what we are thankful for you keep forgetting. Iy use to be after prayer my kids would tell me one thing they are thanksful for and we would thank god all together. I have not done it for a few weeks. We have just been praying and them light off. So I have my kids to thank for that. I was really missing out on that special time with them. Im so glad they know how to be thankful already.
Happy Super Sunday we love you all!

Ready for Work

This is sad to day but I am so ready to go back to work we have been off so much lately me and the kids are all missing being at the preschool. we have a little case of the cabin fever. the one nice thing is the weather has given my a chance to be home with my kids, last weekend they had the stomach flu and this whole week all three of the girls have a cold with fever and yucky runny noses. Jnsen is teething so she is not much fun these days although she is now pulling herself up in her crib and is very proud of her new found talent. We got a new Beta name Rocco, and the girls got a new princess hut to play in to help with the boredom of home. Tonight the kids are going to sleep with a new cloub B turtle nightlight a very cool and inexpensive way to give them a little bit of lightin the room. The girls like it dark but Ruben is terrified of the dark. Keeping the light on all night can get expensive.
Tomorrow I have a babshower and a Scentsy party to go to I hope I will get to go to at least on of them. Ruben is working and I dont really have anyone to babysit for me. I sure could use Alyssa here for awhile. Dot tells me she is agreat babysitter.
I also have got a good start on the spring cleaning, I may not have to clean all all in the spring becuase of all the free time I have now. WEll I hope everyone enjoys their Saturday.Brandi

The Let Down

Well the sleet that grandma was talking about didn't last long and everything cleared up. Every school in Erie county closed Tuesday night for Wednesday except Gowanda. So we woke up early Wednesday morning hoping to get a call that school was closed. No call. Looked out the window, clear sky's hardly any snow a little bit of ice, practically nothing here. We missed it again, so we begrudgingly went to school while the rest of Erie County stayed home. The news stations even went to the school to talk to the principle to see if he regretted his choice to wait until Wednesday morning to make the call. He, of course , said no( there was no reason to close), and that he wouldn't be swayed on his decision by the media, or parents calling. Well gotta get the kids up for school, because we never get a snow day break around here!

Best Winter Buy

The other day I was in Target with Amy just looking. Amy pointed out these thigh high socks, I had to try them out. I have to say they are my best winter buy! I love them! The ones I bought are kind of thick so they are nice and warm, they don't fall down, I LOVE them. An extra layer that is really comfortable, not bunchy! You all know me, and know that I hate socks and shoes, I prefer to be barefoot, however, right now I prefer to be warm, and these are great! I've got to be sure to get some more for next year!

It Has Started

It is 9:45 pm and I just drove home from Hamburg. Clear in Hamburg 25 degrees as I come through Eden, N. Collins a fine mist of snow and the temp is dropping by time I get to Perrysburg it is pouring down rain and 22 so I figure I will either get another day at home or at the very best a two hour late start because if this stuff freezes momma mia! Get out the cheisles. All schools from Hamburg to Buffalo were making closed announcements by 4 this afternoon. Not Gowanda yet. Now I can hear the sleet hitting the windows hope we don't loose trees and electric. HEY ITS WINTER IN WESTERN NY WHAT ELSE IS NEW!! SIT BACK AND ENJOY IT . ALL IS WELL. lOVE Grandma Bev

Today

This morning I went and got my TB test and ID card at the hospital. I still can't volunteer, I have to have another TB test in 2 weeks, then I will be able to start. I met this really sweet older lady while I was there, she volunteers and told me there hasn't been a day since she started that she didn't feel like it was a good day. Her name was Melinda, super sweet, hope I get to see her again. I go back on Thursday to have my arm checked. I also have my first thirty-one party that night. I'm doing a beach theme for the party, hoping everyone is starting to think about spring break, and I can convince them that our products will help them have a great time! I'm excited. Any good idea's for some easy summer goodies I can serve?

I know that Brandi is getting a lot of snow today, and is having a snow day, hope you all are warm and safe. Love you!

Were Ready!

We'll the BIG storm is headed our way. We got about 3 inches this morning, tomorrow were supposed to start with freezing rain and sleet and then turn into snow between 8and 16 in. Wes check came in today so we can go get groceries, I really don't want to be in a store full of people today, but we haven't been shopping in 2 wks , so we really need to go. Again, I'm so glad that we have our wood stove, so if we lose power we still have heat and can cook, we also have two large rechargeable flashlight batteries ready ,and the laptop is charged for watching movies, playing games or listening to music, we also have a wind up radio for music(music is a huge necessity around here), and luckily we don't need power to get our water. So if anyone wants to come hang out for a few days we have heat and food and 6 extra beds!
