Commitment

Well, Mikes post made me think about a commitment that I made yesterday. I'm going to tell you all, which makes it even more important to keep the commitment. I joined a program yesterday called Perfect Balance, part of the program is a commitment to healthy eating and exercise. I had to make an "I will" statement. So, here is my statement: "I will run in the 5k Turkey Trot with my husband in 2010" Which means a couple of things, 1. I have a lot of work to do because I don't run, and 2. I will be in Kansas for Thanksgiving, because that is when and where the Turkey Trot is. So, there is my commitment, now that you all know, you have the job of helping me stay committed. The first part of my healthy eating plan is a 21 day cleansing diet, during that 21 days we have Easter, Phil's birthday, my birthday and a trip to FL. If I can stay committed through all of that, I can do anything! Did I say that I made a commitment, or that I should be committed?

Subway Run

So...... This is what we do here at da Vinci ! I am running in the Subway Run. Now, just so you know, Subway provided the shirts and I did not have a choice as to what I could wear. So..... before watching the video, make sure you don't have youngsters around. Without further ado...... my da Vinci Subway Run Video.

look what I found when I got home

I was afraid I would miss the daffodils blooming while I was in NY. They were all open when I got home and I have been enjoying them all week. Phil was here too, that doesn't happen very often. We worked in the yard all week, raking leaves, and trimming stuff (we don't know what everything is yet). The weather was great until the weekend. While Phil was away at drill, I painted. I'll have before and after pictures soon. Hope you are all having a great day!

I tried to post pictures of my flowers and Phil, but they won't upload. Blogger says they are uploaded, but I can't see them, can you?

Saturdays Project

Lyle, Ian and I built a garden box. We may build one or two more.
The boys did all the assembly of the box(they used the Power drill!!)
Then I lined the bottom with cardboard. The boys covered that with
leaves, and I covered the leaves with dirt and compost. In a few weeks
I'll cover that with a few bags of miracle grow soil and it will be ready
for my tomatoes, peppers, peas, and beans.

Todays LOOT!

It was cold and cloudy today, but it didn't rain until afternoon, so we got a few things done. I dug up some more wild onions, and we went to the beach. I salvaged about 16 pieces of wood for my garden boxes and Wuzzy found some lures and a couple cool rocks. A successful day.

Good afternoon!

Just got back from lunch with mom. It was especially nice to get to go out because it is rainy and cool, my starter went on my car, and Tims indian aide for this semester was cut in half(wish someone would have informed me, just one of the many cuts going on in nys). Ahhhh... rant over... we had a great weekend, the weather was beautiful, picked a few wild onions for the freezer, and made soup with some. Set up the kids big trampoline so they played on it most of the day sun. got most of the yard cleaned up and most of the outdoor furniture set up. My garden plants inside are starting to grow pretty good. Cam was feeling better and he drove us around all day sat. ( but he was still on jello diet, and starving) We thought wed rub it in alittle and had him take us to maple days and had maple boiled hotdogs, and maple cotton candy, which he could only smell. Then we went to Amish country and got candy, cookies, donuts, pie, bread, cheese curd and beef jerky (poor Cam!) He got some of each thing to save for when he could eat, so sunday he planned on pigging out , but after 2 days of jello he couldnt eat as much he had planned. I got pictures of all the babies today, they are beautiful Brandi. I Finished most of Tim finacial aid papers for next year Yeah! Just about time to pick up Lyle. Have a good afternoon. love Sandi

The snow is finally melting

Yes, finally most of our snow is gone, now we have lots of mud. We finished up our maple syrup friday. We made 25 pints, i was hoping for 50 , but it warmed up too fast. Im not really complaining. Thursday it was 67 here. It was back down in the 50s friday, and today its cool and threatening to rain. I have clothes on the line though and im hoping they get dry before it rains, its pretty windy. The little boys and wes went for a ride down to the creek to see how high it is its supposed to be in flood stage today and tomarrow. My primrose is all blossoms so they will probably be out in a couple days, but thats it for flowers. Inside I have spinach and lettuce coming up. Ill have to take a walk out back next week and see if the wild onions are coming up yet. I find out if I have jury duty tomarrow night, im hoping not. Ashley, Dan Cameron and Alyssa are in Ohio today , they left at 4 yesterday afternoon to go to a bible quiz tournament there, they will be back late tonight. Cameron started lacrosse practice this week and Dakota started track, Alyssas been practicing for her musical for a couple months now. The big days are wed and thurs next week the 17-18 they are doing Alice in Wonderland Jr and Alyssa is one of the cards. Wes and I have been just hanging out pretending were retired and lounging till 11-12, going out for breakfast, shopping , visiting , and riding the 4 wheeler, its great. I have no idea when hell go back to work, there isnt much construction going on. Hes been cutting wood at a friends house and has odd jobs here and there. Good enough for us. Hes going to start on our bathroom, and I have some ideas for some out side projects to get started soon. Garden, outside kitchen, solar dehydrator and oven, rocket stove... Well have a great weekend. Love ya Sandi

Wed. and Thurs.

I worked in the backyard for a little while. I raked up 3 bags of leaves and probably have 3 more still, I started cutting down weeds that are a big as trees. It was so nice, the temperature was in the 60's. I uncovered lots of flowers sprouting up everywhere. May next week there will be flowers. It started raining Friday, and will rain again today, so I'm doing an indoor project, hopefully I can show you the results soon!

Tuesday

On Tuesday I made cupcakes for bunco, red velvet with cream cheese frosting, yummy. Well, I was going to show you what I did Wed. and Thurs. but I guess I will have to do another post for that because I can't get blogger to let me add anymore pictures to this!!!!

The waterfront

This is Puget Sound we walked down here at least once everyday. It was really a walk down too, the roads were really steep, a lot like the pictures you see of San Francisco. We took this picture the last night we were there before we went to dinner. They say it rains all the time in Seattle, but it only rained once while we were there, and it was more like mist than rain.

Mt. Ranier

The mountains are beautiful, but very difficult to get a picture of because of the clouds. This is Mt. Ranier, when you see it from the airplane all of the other mountains look like little ant hills.

Pike Place Market

Pike Place Market is on the food channel and the travel channel all the time. People go to see them throw fish, I did get to see that, not on this day though. The market is also known as the home of the original Starbucks. This is not the original, that is around the corner from here. We did go there too. It was just a tiny little place, nothing fancy at all, but the crowd was HUGE!

Seattle

This is the space needle from our hotel room. Right now blogger is only letting me post one picture at a time, so I'll do a couple of posts.

ughhh

I've been trying to post pictures of our trip for the last hour and it isn't working!!!!!!! First I wrote my post and tried to add pictures and it wouldn't work, could not upload pictures, then lost my written post, then tried to upload pictures first didn't work!!!!!!!! So, this is it for now. Hi everyone! We had such a great time in Seattle!! I didn't want to come home. But it's like spring here, which is helping! We worked in the yard a little yesterday and I plan to get out there again today, do some raking and take a walk to coffee times. It's suppose to be 61 today! Hope you all are well, I'll try and post some pictures another time.

Spring is coming!

Its a beautiful morning, the sun is shining bright, although it is only 15 degrees, and there is still a foot of snow on the ground. The sun just looks brighter and warmer this time of year. We had a good week. Wes and I went riding the 4 wheeler all day mon. Tues I went and got contacts, I had forgotten how much better you see with contacts than you do with glasses, and how much glasses cover up the dark circles and wrinkles around your eyes. Apparently I havent been to the eye doctors in more than 6 years, I didnt think it was that long. We went to Applebees after and then went shopping at Walmart, Its been a long time since weve been out for more than breakfast or lunch in a long time also. Wed Ash and I went shopping in springville at walmart, the $ store, salvation army, and the health food store, I did more shopping this week than I did all last year, my shopping spree is over now , it was fun while it lasted, but we really dont need anymore junk in this house, there isnt room. We ate at the mexican resturant in springville, and had to bring salsa home for Wes they have the best salsa ever, besides the kind we get from Kansas. Thurs was so exciting , we tapped our four maple trees. I love to see them start dripping away as soon as you put a hole in them. We spent less than a $1 on two feet of plastic tubing, which made 7 spouts. Were getting about 3-4 gallons of sap a day, but it takes 25 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of syrup we may get 2 gallons of syrup for the next 2 weeks. It sells for at least $50 a gallon around here. After maple syrup, comes wild onions, then violets and dandelions, then raspberries, and blueberries, thenhopefully our garden vegs, so exciting! The little boys and I planted all our seeds for our garden in cardboard egg cartons, where they will sit by the sliding glass door for the next 4-6 weeks before they can go into our garden. Hopefully I can find a good place for the garden, we tried a couple different places but they were no good. Yesterday I actually dried towels out on the line. Spring is coming! Have a good weekend. Love Sandi
